Review: Kji & Co Lip Staysss

Discovering something new and to your liking is always a fun experience. Courtesy of the Glamourbox January box, I got a full-sized Kji & Co Lip Staysss.

There’s not much information out there on the internet about this product, so I’m pretty sure it would never have occurred to me to try this product out. The brand itself is not that well-known, and if you see any reviews, it’ll be about their Lip Spa or Eyeliner.

So hopefully, this post will give you a little bit more information about Lip Staysss!

Lip Balm Essence + Semi Permanent Color + Lip Plumping = Lip Staysss

Lip Staysss semi-permanent lip balm doesn’t bleed, feather, or rub off – and the staying power is 50% greater than any other lipstick in town.

They last through drinks or greasy meals and even heal, hydrate and moisturise your lips at the same time. Made of 100% natural quick drying liquid, you will never feel you have it on. (Source)

The product comes in a slender tube – one end has the lip balm (I’ll call it that for the sake of simplicity), while the other end is used to twist the product up. I made the mistake of thinking it was the other way around; I was trying hard to open the “longer” end of it, thinking that the “shorter” end was the twist. Apparently not. (I was probably thinking of the standard lip balm tubes, like Blistex for example. The longer end was the cap with the product inside.)

When applied it’s quite sheer, so I worried that it would fail in its “semi-permanent color” claim. It looked less of a lip stain (which has good staying power) and more of a tinted lip balm (which didn’t). Keep in mind too that I had to apply it several times to be able to capture that pinkish color. That’s another thing that confused me. If you look at their website, the shade Seductress was supposed to be their Red (the other shades available are Baby Pink and Orange) – but the swatch above clearly shows that it’s more Deep Pink.

That said, I have to give it plus points for being smooth and buttery when applied. And very light, too; it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything on your lips, even if you layer it on. Speaking of layering – as you apply more and more of it, it becomes less and less sheer and the pink does deepen more, at least on my lips. Not quite red, though, and not quite lipstick-looking.

So, did it really stay on my lips for hours? The quick answer is yes, it did! I used it at work and it lasted me about 3-4 hours. With meals, though, it’s a slightly different story. Obviously if you wipe your lips a lot, it won’t stay on for hours. However, it has withstood light pats with tissue (a little transference may occur). You might need to reapply it though after a particularly heavy or greasy meal. Not bad for a lip balm-looking product.

I didn’t notice any hydrating or plumping effect, though it didn’t overly chap my lips, as some lip balms are prone to do.

Overall, this product does its job quite nicely, but I don’t think it’s the holy grail of long-lasting lip products just yet. I wish there were more colors to choose from, less product needed to get it to “appear” on my lips, more noticeable moisturizing and plumping effect. It’s a step up from tinted lip balms, at least.
